Becoming a nail technician takes time and effort, and like all good things, you are going to have to work for it. Along with all the education necessary
you will also have to practice your skills with your new tools to make
sure to give the best manicure and overall experience that you can.
most nail technician courses will cover the following topics in great detail:
- Safety & Sanitation
- Manicuring
- Massage
- Polishing
- Tip Application
- Wraps
- and Sculptured Acrylics
In Arizona Nail Technician Courses require you to take 500 hours of nail training before you can pre-register
for the State Cosmetology Board Examination. In some states, you may
do your training with an apprentice if that is required, and in some
areas it will be all in class training and work. In Arizona , you must
do your 500 hours with a Board approved and registered cosmetology
school. This is required because the school will report your hours
back to the board before you can register to take the examination.
Where to Take Nail Technician Courses
nail technician courses are offered in charter schools or community
colleges, some are offered by nail salons for young men and women who
would like to work there after they graduate. I am sure the salons
enjoy being able to interview their potential new hires for such a long
period of time as well. You can take some continuing education units
online to keep your license current, but in the U.S. I don’t think you
have the option to start your education online.
Theory Examination
to take the Board exam. The exam is broken into 2 sections. The first
section is the Theory Examination. The theoryexamination will be a
written and multiple choice examination covering everything you have
learned over the past 500 hours of class time. this will include
things like anatomy and physiology of the nail, nail pathologies,
hygiene requirements, safety regulations, and what types of
sterilization and sanitation products you can and should use. this
will also cover a lot of very important health and safety issues
regarding the chemicals that you will be using and coming in contact
with on a daily basis. many nail polish removers and other chemicals
can be very harmful if not respected. Once you have completed and
passed the theory examination you will be presented with an
Authorization to Test Letter that will allow you to take the second
part of the exam.
Practical Examination
of the nail technician examination is the practical examination. In
the practical examination you will be required to showcase the skills
you have been developing over the duration of your various nail
technician courses. You will be tested on how to give a manicure. The
exam administrator will be looking at things like how you trim and
shape the nails, how you treat the cuticles, how you do with hand and
foot massage, as well as other various nail treatments. They will also
be looking for how you apply nail varnish as well as various fake nails
like acrylics or gel nails if they were covered in your training.
Your practical examination isincredibly important and cannot be
rescheduled unless you are in a hospital somewhere, so make sure to
treat it like you would your final exam in any college course you may
take. Bring a state ID and a passport photo to the exam with you to be
used with your new nail technician license once you pass.
Celebrate Good Times
and this is a very big one. It is time to take your first step into
your new career and begin your life as a licenced and registered nail
technician.
