Reason 1 it’s Required To Stay Licensed

First, it is not required everywhere to take continuing education units to stay licensed.  Florida is one state that requires license renewals and 16 units of continuing education in approved nail technician courses.  You should check with your local guild or board of cosmetology to find out about license renewals and continuing education.  It is usually not a yearly renewal, so if you are new to the nail tech ranks, you may not have to worry about it for a bit.  Ask any of the more experienced nail techs you may work with as well, because they will know for sure.

Continuing Education Units Make You Better

Ok, maybe they won’t make you better automatically, but having a habit of growing and learning in your field of choice in neccessary for any professional to take your career higher and farther.  Nail technicians and Nail Artists are no exception to this rule.  If you don’t need to take nail technician ceu courses, or courses that offer you continuing education units, then look at a few different nail art courses, or consider taking reflexology, and build it in to a pedicure appointment.  You can also consider taking courses for salon management if you are looking to not only be your own boss, but have others work for you.  Nail technician CEUs are great for getting back to basics and analysing your technique and your procedure.  having that beginners mind will bring you to a place where you are ready to learn and build on the great techniques you already have.  If you learn one thing in the course, then you know it has been worth it.

Make Sure The Credits Transfer

make sure that the courses you take will allow you to continue on with other schools if you have your heart set on a few different nail art classes.  On a couple forums i read about different nail tech schools in England not honoring other schools base credits as prerequisites for their advanced courses even though the courses outlines are very similar in nature.  This could be a quality control issue or it could just be two competing schools trying to squash their competition, but either way it is something you, as a growing nail technician, need to be aware of.
