False nails have been used for centuries for fashion and style. In ancient Egypt women used to color their nails with henna, and in ancient China they would USA a mixture of beeswax, gelatin, albumin, and Arabic gum as a nail decoration to strengthen the nail. In china, the longer the nails, the less work an individual had to do, and the more affluent they appeared to be. Today, the same ideas apply to some extent and people view false nails as a very beautiful status symbol. in many cases the more intricate the nail design, the longer the nails, the more beautiful they are, and the more elegant they appear. Today we use many different types of false nails that have a very wide range of styles, materials, cost and intricacy.
Types of false nails
When it comes to false nails today, we don’t use the same materials that they did in the ancient world for the most part and have traded in their methods for chemical miracles ranging from simple plastic nails with stickers to polymer powders with liquid binding monomers to uv curing gels that harden under ultra violet radiation and can be sculpted into various and interesting shapes. For the most part when receiving a service from your nail technician, you will be receiving false nails that fall into one of two categories, acrylic nails or uv gel nails. These are the most common type of false nail because they are the easiest most cost effective and standardized style of false nails around. Other variations include fiberglass nails, silk nails, or even nails. These variations are great for anyone who may be allergic to the chemicals used in acrylic or gel nails
One great use of acrylic false nails or sculpted uv gel false nails tips is to help cover up injuries or problems that may make someone self conscious. For example, it is very common to injure a toe nail, and sometimes even injure the nail bed so badly that a toe nail may not grow back. In cases like these it is possible to go see a nail technician and have them sculpt false toe nails for you out of acrylic or uv gel. If the nail has come up but will eventually grow back you can apply uv gel directly onto the nail bed and it will appear natural as the real nail grows back in. if the toe nail is dead, then you can have a uv gel nail sculpted for your and adhered with medical grade adhesive gel. every few days these type of false toe nails may need to be replaced, but the gel nail can be reused multiple times.
Cost of false nails
All false nails have different prices that will vary from nail technician to nail technician and from nail salon to nail salon. if you live in one city or another the price of the service will also vary. If you are purchasing press on nails which are becoming more common among teens and younger girls, then the price will depend on what brand of sticker nails you decide to purchase. Nailene false nails are around 10 dollars for 36 nails but prices sizes and how long they stay on all vary from brand to brand. Gel nails usually cost less than acrylic nails due to the reduced time required to finish the gel nail service, but gel nails don’t tend to last quite as long as acrylic nails, so the maintenance will be about the same when it really comes down to the long term. Getting your nails “filled” is a necessary maintenance step of false nails of the acrylic or uv gel type because the natural nail underneath will grow leaving a gap at the cuticle area that will need to be filled to maintain the natural look. This filling service is usually much less expensive than adding a new set of nails or removing a set of nails because of how quickly the service can be performed and because of how little gel or monomer liquid is used. I hate to put average prices up since they can vary so wildly, but they will average anywhere between $25-$50 a set if we don’t take into account any special nail art or any “nail boutique” prices which can be much more expensive. I have seen gel nail fills on the range between anywhere from $5 to around $20. When it comes to acrylic nails you can expect to pay within about the same range, but generally a little bit more expensive due to the increased time commitment required.
Where to get false nails
The first place you should look to get false nails is your local beauty salon or nail salon. Your nail technician should be able to direct you to someone who does false nails if they don’t offer the service themselves. I happen to know quite a few nail technicians who do only natural nails due to the smell and associated chemicals that go along with false nails. If you are looking for press on or stick on nails, your nail technician should also be able to point you in the right direction there as well. If they are not available in a store near you, you can always look through a catalog or search the Internet. Before you get your new shiny (or matte) set of false nails, make sure to ask your nail technician for pictures of work they have done, a list or products that they use, and any maintenance issues that you will need to be aware of while wearing your nails. These questions will make the whole process go much more smoothly for you and give you an idea of anything you may not have been aware of before you made your decision to get false nails.
Courses on False Nails
If you are already a nail technician that knows how to give a standard manicure and pedicure, but are looking to move beyond the nail polish and into the world of false nails whether it be acrylic or gel, then you should certainly look into taking a bit of nail training to get yourself ready. If you contact a nail product provider, they will most likely have instructional dvd’s available for you to learn from on how to specifically use your products, but many times these dvd’s will have some basic information missing that they may assume you already have. A specialized nail technician training course for false nails will almost always be better if it falls within your budget, as you will generally receive a certification of completion that can build trust with your clients as well as many specialized techniques that may not be covered in a brand training video. It is always best to get as much training and learn as much as you can when it comes to false nails.
that’s it for now… till next time.
